This article that I'm posting the link to here is a few months old, but if nothing has changed in the minds of the developers then in a Kanye West-ish moment, I feel comfortable in proclaiming that Nintendo/Game Freak does not care about Pokemon players.

Not sure how Platinum's more robust Wi-Fi functionality achieves this in a way MMOs cannot.
